prayer for a girl
1. how much time do you spend daily in a disciplined experience of prayer?
here is what i wish for you: become a swashbuckler.
2. what methods have you discovered for reading the bible in a way that the scriptures nurture your experience of god?
surprise girls by kissing them. you can work up to it by just kissing their hand, looking at them from under your eyelashes as you do.
3. do you have one or more spiritual companions who share the journey with you and to whom you are accountable?
be prepared to strike out a lot of the time. resolve to perform two swashbuckling romantic gestures for every one time you strike out.
4. has there been a time in your life that god seemed nearer than today?
jaded, pessimistic, lonely butches are a dime a dozen and it is sad.
5. to what extent is prayer integrated into your life?
the problem is these instant crushes that lead to frustration, humiliation, and self-destructive behavior, which can only be ameliorated by falling in love right away again. the effect is like a drunk driver on the ice. it's dangerous and unattractive.
6. do you seek times of solitude in which you are alone with god? how often?
i'm not saying that's you, because that's not you. but it's one possible future. i can imagine you sulking at a bar while cute girls sashay past like you're invisible. smoking and smoking and drinking and drinking and growing more squinty and embittered every hour until it's time to stagger home and tuck into that hangover. this would be the exact opposite of swashbuckling.
7. what other sources of spiritual nurture do you have?
i wish for you to feel the world of all those who love you, who really love you and worry about you and admire you and are amused by you and take comfort in thinking you're doing all right. i want you to feel all that in your chest, filling up like a big balloon.
8. when was the last time you made a spiritual retreat?
filling you with lightness.
9. is your consciousness of god related to the issues facing the world?
filled with lightness, you will be filled with valor, and you will not ever even for a minute be afraid to shower whimsical affection on friendly, pretty, happy girls. you will be their hero. and you will not be confused or hurt when they behave frivolously, because you are so filled up with the goodwill and humor and glad regard of those who love you.
10. what in your life rivals god for priority?
if i could give you anything today, it would be a pair of big boots, like the boots puss-in-boots wore in the fairy tale - seven-league boots. but i can't do that because you are far away, so all i can do is urge you, urge you: kiss somebody's hand today, and be happy.
